The problem has come about due to a dispute between FLD and IAM which, to be honest, should not have been allowed to affect users. If you are affected then you have a problem. FLD will not allow you to upgrade and nobody will give you your money back. If you bought by credit card you may be able to get your money back from them.
When you register you are entitled to free upgrades with the 2.x range. The 3.0 upgrade, if it had happened, would have cost UK£ 25.
Alternatively, "telnet" to fgate.flevel.co.uk. When you get the username prompt type "afsup". Note that this is UNIX and is case sensitive. You will be asked for your e-mail address and serial number. You MUST specify the ones you registered. You will then be asked what version you want. Do not request any beta versions ! Your telnet session will then drop and an e-mail will be composed and sent to you. You will have to "uudecode" and "lha" the result.
If the new version comes with an installer program use it. If not copy floppyAFS and the required version of harddiskAFS to L:.
So far we have done nothing to run the new version !
Run HDToolBox and perform the following for each disk. Select partition drive. Select advanced options. Select add/update. Select AFS. Select update file system. Type the location of you new version of AFS. This should be L:harddiskAFS. Type <return>. A requester should appear with the new version and revision numbers. If it doesn't something has gone wrong and you should seek advice from somebody who can help. If they are correct click on OK. Click on OK. Click on save changes. When you have done all disks exit HDToolBOX. That is it.
It is nice to look at these versions to see where the product is going.
If you can FLD would love you to test it and post your results to support@felevel.co.uk. You are unlikely to get a reply unless you have found a new problem for which they need more information.
All bug reports should include detailed machine configuration details including "ShowConfig" output !
Note that it is likely that FLD do not pass all bug reports to the author. So please can I ask you to also post bug reports to the mailing list or myself. It will also allow the members of the list to keep up with things. FLD have never released any progress reports !
Discussion can be posted to the AFS list. See next question.
FLD has set up a support line on +44-117-983-1334.
subscribe afs your.mail.address end
unsubscribe afs your.mail.address endFLD are now using MAJORDOMO which is more reliable than EMAILURL. If you have any problems with it then please email support@flevel.co.uk and NOT the list. Thanks...
FLD has recently started to use MAJORDOMO instead of EMAILURL. This is alot more reliable and not a moment too soon ! If you do have problems please email support@flevel.co.uk and not the list. Thanks...
There is one important difference between MAJORDOMO and EMAILURL. You have to post with the exact same address that you subscribed with. This caught me out !
Finally I would like to publically thank FLD for upgrading to MAJORDOMO.
